Kids Fun Run & Festival
1.1 Mile Kids Fun Run Information
The 5th annual Heartland Kids Fun Run & Festival will take place on Friday, August 31, 2018. The race will begin at 6:00 PM (ET) from the paved parking area adjacent to the Dave Buehler Plaza. Children ages 4-14 are eligilble to enter the 1.1 Mile Kids Fun Run. Those participants ages 4-8 will be required to run with a Running Buddy (age 18 or older). Race Registration includes a t-shirt, participation medal, and goody bag (Shirt size preference and goody bag not guaranteed if registered after August 12, 2018). The first 100 participants to register for the Kids Fun Run will receive a special gift. Running Buddies are not required to register, therefore will not be charged the race fee and will not receive race garb.
The Heartland Kids Festival will take place from 5:00-7:30 PM at the Dave Buehler Plaza. Festivities will include a variety of games, activities, and health information for the whole family to enjoy. In addition, there will be live music, performances by local dance and gymnastics teams, face painting, food for purchase, and so much more. The Heartland Kids Festival is free and open to the public.
All paid participants will be awarded a medal upon completion of the race. Post race refreshments and photos will be available at the finish.

The Festival is FREE and open to the Public! All event proceeds benefit Girls on the Run serving Dubois Co. Donations are welcome.
Registration for the Kids Fun Run is available by picking up a brochure, printing and mailing a registration form or for online registration click here. 12-Mile Youth Challenge
All participants are encouraged to complete the 12-mile Youth Challenge prior to the event. Participants can print the Running Log below or use the Log in this year's race brochure to track 12 miles prior to September 1st. Once participants complete and submit their Log at the registration table on Race Day, they will be entered to win a Fit Bit and other cool prizes!

- Kids Fun Run Packet Pick-up and Start Line will be in the paved parking area at the east entrance of Dave Buehler Plaza (off of Third Avenue bridge near Patoka River in Jasper, IN)
- Participants will proceed from the parking area to 4th Street
- Take a right on Anderson and proceed north to 6th Street
- Take a left on 6th Street and proceed west toward the Courthouse Square
- Turn left and run clockwise around the Courthouse Square
- Turn left on 6th Street and proceed east toward the Jasper Riverwalk
- Take a right onto the Riverwalk and run to the Official Heartland finish line at the east entrance of Dave Buehler Plaza
- Parking is available along city streets or in the gravel parking lot near Schaeffer Barn
Riverwalk Parking at the 4th Street entrance to Dave Buehler Plaza will be closed for this event. Additional parking is available in the gravel lot near Schaeffer Barn, which is short walking distance to the Dave Buehler Plaza.
Race Weather & Climate
Located just west of the Hoosier National Forest in southwestern Indiana, about 120 miles southwest of Indianapolis and roughly 80 miles west of Louisville, Jasper sees typical September temperatures that average between 80°F and 53°F, while rainfall averages just under 3.6 inches for the month. On the day of the race, the average high is 84°F and the average low is 58°F.
Weather related information will be communicated with participants via email as well as through local media; WBDC-100.9 FM and WITZ–990 AM/104.7 FM. The safety of our participants is first and foremost.
Proceeds from the Kids Fun Run and Festival will benefit Girls on the Run serving Dubois County. This non-profit is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-5th grade, which began in 2015. The mission is to teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. “We believe that every girl --can embrace who she is, can define who she wants to be, can rise to any challenge, and can change the world.”

Is Race Day Registration available?
Yes, you may wait to register the day of the race, however you will not be guaranteed a t-shirt, goody-bag or medal. The quantities of these items are limited, so register early to guarantee your race garb and avoid the price increase.
Where can I pick up my race packet?
There will be a registration table set up at the Dave Buehler Plaza at the Jasper Riverwalk. It is close to the Jasper Train Depot located at 201 Mill Street, Jasper, IN 47546.

Is the race registration based on age or grade level?
Kids Run registration is based on the AGE of the participant on Race Day. Participants will complete the race in waves according to their age, with the oldest participants beginning first, and those participating with Running Buddies starting second.
Why is it necessary I provide my email address on the Registration Form?
We will keep you updated of important race information by email.
Where should I pin my BIB (race number)?
Pin race number on the front of your shirt. The bib number will enable participants to receive a medal, photo, and post-race refreshments at the finish.
What is a Running Buddy?
A Running Buddy is required for participants AGES 4-8. A Running buddy is a parent, guardian, or friend who is 18 years or older who stays with the participant as they complete the 1.1 mile course.
What if I have two children who require a Running Buddy?
One parent or guardian may run with both children.
Will there be any water stops along the route?
No food and drink will be available along the route, however post-race refreshments will be provided to participants at the finish and food and drink will be available for purchase at the Festival.
What if I have to go to the bathroom during the race?
Portable toilets are available near the race start and finish at Dave Buehler Plaza.
What if I get hurt or cannot finish the race?
Safety is our main concern, so please use caution at all times. We will have volunteers throughout the course to assist runners that may need help during or after the race. A medical tent is located in Dave Buehler Plaza and First Responders will be on hand throughout the event. Emergency contact information will be listed on participant bibs.
Does everyone running receive a medal?
Yes, this is a fun run designed to encourage physical fitness of any level. Each paid participant will receive a medal as they cross the finish line.
Is food available at the finish?
Water and light snacks will be provided at the finish line for participants. Only participants and their Running Buddy will be offered post race refreshments. Drinks and freeze pops will be available for purchase.
Is this a timed event?
Yes, a timer will call out times at the finish line, however times will not be recorded. The goal of the Heartland Kids Fun Run & Festival is to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyle choices for youth and their families.
Where do I park on race day?
Plenty of parking will be available in the gravel lot west of Schaeffer Barn (which is along the race route). Parking is also allowed along the streets and various lots throughout the city of Jasper.
Where is the best place for people to watch the race?
The course is planned out so that one can travel the Riverwalk area easily from one location to another. The finish line will be in the Dave Buehler Plaza along the Jasper Riverwalk, which is a great location to cheer on runners as they are finishing their race.
What is the Festival?
The Festival is a free event for all members of our community to celebrate health and wellness. The Body, Mind and Spirit themed event will feature booths where local organizations and businesses will provide fun wellness activities. Activities include an Obstacle Course, Hula Hoops, Face Painting, fitness session with Fit Together, gymnastics and Tae kwon do demonstrations, and much more.
